A historical overview of Kabul University.
The Afghan government, during the reign of King Mohammed Nadir, decided to establish a Directorate for Higher Education in the year (1311 AH) corresponding to (1932 AD). This entity later elevated to the Ministry of Higher Education in the year (1355 AH). In the same year, a royal decree was issued to establish a university named Kabul University. The first college established at the university was the Faculty of Medicine, with the support of the then Minister of Education, Mr. Mohammad Naeem. Subsequently, several colleges were established, including the Faculty of Law in (1938 AD), the Faculty of Science in (1942 AD), the Faculty of Literature and Languages in (1944 AD), and the Faculty of Sharia in (1951 AD), among others. The university currently has 22 colleges and serves tens of thousands of students in various disciplines and academic levels, ranging from bachelor's to doctoral degrees.
After many years of scientific activity, the university administration has signed numerous agreements with various global universities and academic centers for collaboration in the fields of science and culture. Some of the most significant agreements signed between Kabul University and other global universities include:

- Agreement with Rikkyo University, Japan, in 2017.
- Agreement with Tallinn University, Estonia, in 2017.
- Agreement with Mevlana University, Turkey, in 2017.
- Agreement with Northridge University, USA, in 2018.

- Agreement with Al-Farabi University, Kazakhstan, in 2019.
